Cupping
Myofascial cupping massage is a therapeutic technique that combines traditional massage with the application of suction cups to the body. It aims to release tension in the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding muscles, by lifting and separating it. This can lead to reduced pain, improved range of motion, and increased blood flow to the treated area. I include cupping in my treatments when necessary for no additional charge. *Remember you always have the right to refuse something if you aren't comfortable with it.*
How it works:
Fascial Release:
Myofascial cupping uses suction to lift the fascia and underlying muscle tissue, creating space and separating the layers.
Improved Blood Flow:
The suction also draws blood to the surface, potentially enhancing circulation and promoting healing in the area.
Scar Tissue and Adhesion Reduction:
Cupping can help break down scar tissue and adhesions, which can restrict movement and cause pain.
Trigger Point Therapy:
Cups can be applied to trigger points, areas of muscle tightness and pain, to help release tension.
Benefits of cupping are:
Pain Relief
Myofascial cupping can be effective in reducing pain associated with various conditions, including muscle tightness, back pain, and headaches.
Improved Range of Motion:
By releasing fascial restrictions, cupping can help improve flexibility and range of motion in joints.
Reduced Inflammation:
The increased blood flow and tissue mobilization can help reduce inflammation and swelling.
Stress Reduction:
Cupping can have a relaxing effect on the nervous system, promoting overall relaxation and stress reduction.
What to expect:
Application:
Cups, typically made of silicone, or plastic are placed on the skin after a lubricant is applied. The suction is created by either squeezing the cup or using a pump.
Treatment methods:
Static cupping: Cups may be left in place for a few minutes.
gliding cupping: Cups are applied and then moved in a gliding motion around your body.
Active cupping: Cups are applied and you are asked to move a part of your body.
Possible Reactions:
Red or circular marks may appear on the skin after cupping, but these usually fade within a few days.
Who can benefit:
Myofascial cupping is generally safe for most people and can be beneficial for individuals experiencing:
Muscle pain and tightness
Back pain
Headaches
Limited range of motion
Scar tissue and adhesions
Stress and anxiety
